The Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations Technical Lead is a hands-on senior developer role with accountability for the technical architecture, solution design, and engineering quality of the Dynamics FnO platform.

This role combines deep technical delivery with leadership responsibility. The Tech Lead remains actively involved in solution design and development while guiding and mentoring the wider engineering team. Working closely with the System Owner, Software Delivery Manager, architects, and Finance stakeholders, the role ensures that business requirements are translated into robust, scalable, and supportable technical solutions.

The FnO Technical Lead plays a critical role in ensuring the platform remains stable, secure, performant, and fit for IWG’s global Finance operations, particularly during month-end and year-end cycles.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Architecture & Solution Design

• Own and evolve the technical architecture for Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and related integrations.
• Design and implement scalable, maintainable solutions aligned to IWG architecture, security, and data standards.
• Produce hands-on technical designs and specifications for complex or high-risk changes.
• Review and approve technical designs for customisations, extensions, and integrations.
• Champion best-practice use of the Dynamics 365 extension model and actively reduce technical debt.

2. Hands-On Development & Engineering Leadership

• Actively develop and deliver solutions using X++, extensions, data entities, batch framework, and integrations.
• Take ownership of complex development items, critical fixes, and performance-sensitive components.
• Lead by example through high-quality, well-tested, and performant code.
• Set and enforce standards for code quality, testing, performance, and documentation.
• Lead and participate in design reviews and code reviews.
• Mentor and support developers through pairing, technical guidance, and constructive feedback.

3. Integrations & Platform Engineering

• Design, build, and support integrations with upstream and downstream systems including banking platforms, tax engines, revenue systems, reporting platforms, and Power Platform solutions.
• Implement and maintain Azure-based integration patterns using Logic Apps, Functions, Service Bus, APIs, and messaging services.
• Contribute directly to environment strategy, build pipelines, CI/CD, and release automation.
• Ensure integrations are secure, reliable, and operationally supportable.

4. SDLC, Release & Operational Support

• Work closely with the Software Delivery Manager to support end-to-end SDLC execution.
• Ensure technical readiness for releases, especially around Finance-critical periods such as month-end and year-end.
• Support production incidents, root-cause analysis, and permanent fixes.
• Assist with environment management, deployment coordination, and release validation.

5. Security, Controls & Compliance

• Ensure solutions comply with IWG security standards, audit requirements, and data protection policies.
• Support segregation of duties, access controls, and technical audit evidence.
• Work with Audit, Security, and Risk teams to remediate findings and strengthen platform controls.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Required

• 7+ years of hands-on experience with Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations or Dynamics AX.
• Strong, current expertise in X++, extensions, data entities, batch framework, and performance optimisation.
• Proven experience delivering complex customisations and integrations in live ERP environments.
• Strong Azure experience, including Logic Apps, Functions, Service Bus, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience leading technical delivery while remaining an active individual contributor.
• Solid understanding of Finance processes and ERP control frameworks.

Preferred

• Experience working in global, multi-entity, multi-currency environments.
• Exposure to Power Platform, Power BI, or automation technologies.
• Experience supporting Finance shared service centres (SSCs) or large Finance transformation programmes.
